Emotional & practical support for people living with HIV

Published on:

People living with HIV now have excellent health outcomes, but they can still face a lot of practical and emotional challenges. Living with HIV is a journey for everyone, and some days will be better than others.

Our team of doctors, nurses, health advisers, counsellors and peer mentors will all be happy to help you with any questions and point you in the direction of appropriate support.

Emotional challenges

HIV might awaken other issues that you have been struggling with for a while. You might find it difficult to accept that you can have a relationship, or feel concerned about how you will be perceived if anyone were to find out.

Practical questions

Practically, you might be considering these things, amongst others:

  • How you might travel or even live abroad
  • How you might disclose to new sexual partners or friends and family
  • How to disclose to your employer if appropriate, and what your rights at work are
  • Whether you can have children and how you might go about this

How we can help

We believe that the best approach is to help empower a person living with HIV to take control of their diagnosis and know how to navigate any emerging issues that come up in their lives.

Our multidisciplinary team provides support around diet, chems, mental health, access to food vouchers and a range of other issues.

We can also link you up with a variety of support organisations such as peer support from other people living with HIV, group support and workshops.

We believe in a tailored approach based on people’s individual needs, so if you need support with other issues such as housing, safety at home or work, homophobia or transphobia, we will be happy to help.
